Fox Nation, conservative media launch political attack on Obama's shooting remarks
Following the shootings at the Fort Hood Army Post, the Fox Nation and right-wing blogs launched political attacks on President Obama's remarks at a the Tribal Nations conference at the Interior Department, in which he addressed the tragedy after making introductory remarks.
Right-wing media attack Obama's introductory remarks
Fox Nation: "Appropriate? Obama Gives 'Shout Out' Before Fort Hood Remarks." Fox Nation posted a video of the press conference on November 5 with the headline, "Appropriate? Obama Gives 'Shout Out' Before Fort Hood Remarks":

Drudge headline: "Obama's Frightening Insensitivity Following Shooting..." Drudge posted a link to a column by Robert A. George under the headline "Obama's Frightening Insensitivity Following Shooting..." From the Drudge Report on November 6:

Commentary's Chavez: "He treated the event like a pep rally." Linda Chavez wrote in a November 5 blog post for Commentary Magazine that "President Obama's rushed press conference was surprising in its flippancy nonetheless. Before he got to the issue on everyone's mind - namely the deaths of Americans in uniform - the president gave a 'shout-out' to government bureaucrats gathered for a previously scheduled conference at the Interior Department, complete with appreciative chuckles. He treated the event like a pep rally rather than a tragic occasion with a wider audience than those gathered in the room. I wonder how many media outlets will compare Obama's performance to President Bush's 'Pet Goat' moment on 9/11. I won't hold my breath."
GatewayPundit: Obama addressed shooting "[a]fter two minutes of smiling, pointing and dithering." GatewayPundit blogger Jim Hoft wrote on November 5, "After two minutes of smiling, pointing and dithering... Barack Obama finally got around to mentioning the massacre at Fort Hood in Texas. The president then went on to tell the audience what great admiration he has for the men and women in uniform...Except, of course, for those serving in Afghanistan who he refuses to support."
Ben Johnson: Obama "feels there is no event so serious that it cannot be prefaced by a moment of glib hipness." On November 5 Johnson wrote on David Horowitz' Newsreal website that Obama's "shout out" "says it all: our commander-in-chief feels there is no event so serious that it cannot be prefaced by a moment of glib hipness, no solemn loss so sacred he will deny himself a moment of wry self-indulgence. Soldiers were killed? Let's say hi to Joe first. An entire theater of war needs a plan to defeat the terrorists who struck America on 9/11? No reason I can't go golfing, shoot some hoops, and hit the town with Michelle." Johnson added, "We desperately need an adult in the White House. Sadly, today's press conference proves we do not have one."
American Thinker: "Our clueless C in C." American Thinker blogger Clarice Feldman wrote on November 5, "Twelve soldiers were murdered in cold blood at Fort Hood. Thirty others were wounded. Our Commander in Chief calls a press conference and begins it with a long thanks to the Interior Department and Indians who just concluded a conference and then gives a good natured 'shout out' to an attendee, all with a studied nonchalance, before he even mentions the outrage on our military base."

If we are to save America we need to ship republicans out of this country.
When one takes 6 months to pick out a dog, yet wants to ram through a health care bill by tomorrow, doesnt send troops as requested, is one which doesnt seem to have the priorities of the US, but rather a personal agenda.
Use Deception & Lies to put over the White-House a Dark Cloud.
Bring in Tea Baggers & 9/12ers to incite the Crowd.
News Corp. "A Racist Enterprise" When will the Main Stream Media say this out Loud?
Speak truth to power.
Mr. News
But these republicans they know everything there is to know about everything....HA! what a crock they are.
Unlike, say, the governors of NJ or VA. Who are not legislators, and really have nothing to do with Obama.
He changed his event to comment on the Fort Hood incident, but he did the coutesy for the room to acknowledge whtat the event was for and the people that he was usurping for the new news.
How does this compare to President Bush waiting 20 minutes for the elementary class to finish before reacting... it was literally less than 60 seconds worth of acknowledgements to those at the event whom he was now about to dismiss for the pressing news story.
Fox Nation and conservative media launched political attack on Obama's shooting remarks is nbc in chicago part of the conservative media now http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/politics/A-Disconnected-President.html
? Can someone please let me know. Thanks so much
Virtually every television news outlet have a common boilerplate disclaimer that editorial opinions expressed are not necessarilly the view of this station
It is a false equivalency argument to compare NBCCHICAGO to the conservative editorial blogsites sited by MMfA.
Nice try troll!

There's a lot of things I can fault Mr. Bush for, but being airborne and out of harm's way on 9/11 ain't one of those things.
I bring it up as it seems odd that so many have used that term as shown in this post.
And I ask cause it seems like a subtle jab (dog whistle?) at the skin tone of the president. I mean "shout out" is an urban/hip hop expression and I can't imagine these yahoos using it with reference to a white person.
Of course if I'm wrong and Obama used the term "shout out"... never mind.
But if he didn't use it, why would four different commentators choose that term to describe his acknowledgments? And I doubt they have used that term in reference to a white person.
What is it with reading for comprehension that so many conservatives have a problem with?
You tell us. Since Obama didn't use the term, why did all those news outlets feel the need to use it themselves? It's not the criticism, it's the reoccurring and out of place use of such charged language (e.g. "baby momma" earlier in the campaign)
That is that.
Anyhow here is the link to the speech where he used the term shout out. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with those words, It was simply inappropriate to discuss for minutes other topics before discussing the shooting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0hiw8iXdMM
The short answer.... no.
The right-wing will be unhappy no matter what President Obama does!
Sometimes I wish president Obama would simply just be the crazy liberal president the right-wing accuses him of being, instead of this centrist, play nice with the immature children of the Republican party kind of president he is!
We might all be the better for it and it would give the right-wing something to actually complain about!!
Up here in Boston, I heard about it on the radio on wbz 1030 AM. I heard the facts and switched to 96.9 KKK talk and was immediately rewarded with one of the lowly hosts Jay Severin complaining about Obama's remarks.
Where was Severin's respect to the fallen?
The answer is, "Glib and hip."
Question: What are two things George W Bush never was before and never will be in the future?
Way to go JERK-IN-CHIEF! You made a real nice joke! Ha-Ha, but the joke's on the American military isn't it?
Revolution is coming...
When all the required information is gathered and analyzed? But regardless, were you this upset by the previous administartion's lack of action regarding requests for more troops?
Paul Bremer, the ranking U.S. official in Iraq for a year after the 2003 invasion, said he pushed the Pentagon to increase the number of troops there but was ignored despite growing lawlessness and an increasingly lethal insurgency.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/iraq/2006-01-09-iraq-bremer-book_x.htm
By late last summer, he decided to tell George W. Bush's White House what he knew it did not want to hear: He needed 30,000 more troops. He wanted to send some to the country's east to bolster other U.S. forces, and some to the south to assist overwhelmed British and Canadian units in Helmand and Kandahar provinces.
The Bush administration opted not to act on McKiernan's request and instead set out to persuade NATO allies to contribute more troops. With Washington then viewing NATO as the solution -- not the problem -- McKiernan seemed like the right general to help win over the allies. Before coming to Kabul, he had been the top Army commander in Europe, and he had been part of the NATO mission in the Balkans in the 1990s.

Why do you hate democracy?
We can't be worried about how the enemy will feel when they are forced to surrender:
"I'm always worried about using the word 'victory,' because, you know, it invokes this notion of Emperor Hirohito coming down and signing a surrender to MacArthur." - BO at the G-20 Summit in Pittsburgh. (BTW it wasn't the emperor doing the signing)
God save our country from this idiot!
Nice way to support Democracy. If you can't win an election, foment revolution?
Out of curiosity, if you wingnuts overthrow the Democratically elected government of the US, will we need to call in UN Peacekeepers to liberate us?
I did. And I learned that elected presidents serve a term of 4 years. And that revolution against the sitting government is treason.
Guess you were absent the day when those facts were presented to the class.
Well, at least you agree Obama's an idiot.
The only way for us to win would have been to destroy the country and it's people in order to save it.
But we're a representative-republic, not MOB RULE. We vote democratically for our representatives, but that's it.
vs
out
This time it might be a good idea if all the warmongers just sat back and let the 'informed' make decisions not based on neocon policies!
As for your own mob mentality I refer you to the likes of Glenn Beck and Michelle Bachmann who seem to be having lots of fun trying to stoke the passions of their sad little mob in opposition to health care.
Count yourself in the mob mentality.

>>Revolution is coming... >>
Uh, what exactly does that mean?
The fact is he's afraid of losing politcally with his base, so the troops are nothing more than a bargaining chip. Domestic issues this can be argued back and forth, but with American troops fighting and dying for Freedom, it's disrespectful at least.
If we had listened to our military leaders back then, we might still be there.
"You all know...(something that it believes)!", and
"It's a fact that ... (troll's opinion) !"
He fails to understand one true fact. That our military is loyal to the constitution and to the elected government of the US.
Is that how they support the military? By suggesting they overthrow the government?
I'm thinking he's going to sit and watch as everything goes down.
Also, Obama INCREASED the military budget for the ground pounders when he took office as well.
You guys ignore that he is supplying, and helping, the troops.
Now if you are insinuating insurrection against our elected president, then that pretty much makes you a traitor. A big scumbag traitor, like the traitor Glenn Beck and traitor Michelle Bachman.
So make your threats. My 8 years in the Marine Corps will come in VERY handy when the time comes.
O-ne

A-merica!
This guy's a joke!
I wonder how he felt about the last batch of criminals the last 8 years?
He bowls "like the special-olympics"
That's wasn't "the Jeremiah Wright that I knew"
That's wasn't "the Tony Rezko that I knew"
He didn't know "all the details, but the police acted stupidly"
His grandma was "just acting like a typical white person"
And now before mentioning the tragic shooting at Ft Hood he first HAD to "give a shout out to Dr. Joe Medicine Crow"
Where's the telepromter when our dear leader needs it?
Suddenly the Neocons support 'empathy'?
Now, as more and more details about the Fort Hood murders comes out he cautions everyone NOT to jump to conclusions.
Hmmmmm
Do not pretend that Obama could ever act, as president, in a way that you would find satisfatory.
Enticing a home owner out of his house to arrest him for distrubing the peace is by the book?
The incident got a lot of play, we saw the missinformation pass through this website. Responsible people are not exempt from acting stupid on occasion.
Your inditement of Obama indicates that his comment was about all the police in Cambridge. This is missinformation.
How did it feel when you determined that ethics were of no use to you?
Just ignore the facts when they are convienant for you.
I'm sure you have other reasons for your surity about Obama's feelings about the military and Islam. Straw that broke the camel's back eh? That's ok you can cry about it. Poor ole abused by his president democrat, that you are?
Besides Newt apologizing to Limbic for backing an opposing candidate in this week's election, could you give an example of recent republican common sense
I've read some democratic thoughts on dealing with terrorism. None of them had hugging terrorists as a viable option. I can't in fact recall any democrat beyond yourself, of course, mentioning it.
Your not the first wingnut to show up on this forum claiming to be progressive/liberal/democratic. Not even the only one today. One really good, clue, no one here considers Obama the messiah, but it is a current wingnut happy word.
Fail.
I should have stopped there. Why do I keep reading, thinking they're going to suddenly start making sense?

The Midnight Review
Mum Is The Word
Democrats (including Obama) bend over backwards for everyone else, then apply standards well above everyone else to fellow Democrats. We demand that "our own" play nice while we make excuses for everyone else. We will NEVER be good leaders. So maybe we should creat a parallel to FOX so that we could say..."they both do it, so let's go with the lesser of the two evils>" At least then, we could play nice AND Lead.
Obams will never lead as long as he demands that we "play nice" while the opposition shoots us in the back.
Thank God for MMFA! It's the first step in the right direction.
The opposition does not shoot you in the back. It is in your face. They come at you from all sides. It has been the thing that makes this country great. If you can stand up for your convictions during an onslaught of negative press then you are a leader. If you cry about the opposition constantly then your principles must not be good enough to withstand public debate.
Investigate the liberal blogosphere to find some more good people and ideas.
Please. Are you serious?
It seems the uber-conservative's favorite fallacy lately is false equivalency. Not to be morbid but compare body counts. We're talking 12 vs. 2,995, not to mention the mass destruction of property, and the Pentagon being threatened, and us declaring war on two nations, etc., etc.
A heart-felt comment was appropriate and he delivered it.
