This is a good point brought out by Donohue...

No religion can hope to be successful for long if member's persist in thinking for themselves.

Jesus was clear on this in Matthew 14, verse 9: "Thou shalt remain dumb-asses if thou wants to enter the kingdom of heaven."

And it's morons like Donahue that drove me away from the Catholic Church over 30 years ago...

I take it he's not from the Franciscan tradition. Wonder if he's ever said if he supports Vatican II?

As a recovering Catholic myself, Donohue is example One Million Gazillion why the church constantly sends the wrong messages. The Catholic church is becoming irrelevant in a communicative age and they simply have no evolution in response (see appointment of Ratzinger for Pope). When the old dry men in Rome have to give up some of their rich lives, that is the only way things will change.

Yes Heaven forbid that church members start to think for themselves instead of walking in lockstep with every pronouncement from the Holy See. I mean, once parishoners start to think for themselves they will obviously start questioning things and that will lead to independent thought which will lead to people questioning Catholic doctrine!!! >GASP!!< No, no no, we can't have that!! Just be a good little robot and do as your told.

This guy does NOT speak for Catholics. Please don't use his words to condemn Catholicism. He's a fringe lunatic who claims to speak for Catholics. As a Catholic (not a "recovering Catholic," an obnoxious term which suggests that my faith is something I need to be "cured" of ) I find this man offensive and a false prophet.
