Huffington Post: Glenn Beck Compares Derailing Health Care To Preparing For 9/11

Transcript (retrieved from Nexis):

BECK: You see, gang, in Washington, the party is over. In the 1990s, I was on the radio warning people about Osama bin Laden, not because I was some super-smart genius. I just listened to the man's words. I really believed him.

But that wasn't the top of the priority list in America -- no, no, no. We were dealing with the fat interns and the definition of is, and I like the rest of America went back to sleep on the terrorist threat.

On 9/11, we experienced a feeling we had never had before, when the buildings and the markets and our economy came falling down around our ears, we realized, "Oh, my gosh, our country isn't unsinkable." We came, on that day, to the understanding that this republic is fragile.

And here we are now, a decade later, I'm on the air again, warning you that America cannot sustain our government's massive spending. The system will collapse if they continue down this progressive path.

Ten years ago, I could have shouted every single day about Osama bin Laden and his wacky, crazy threats to kill Americans in New York and no one would have been willing to stand in line two hours while some security officer made grandma taker her shoes off. No one would have done it.

But don't you see, while the government is still not willing to do these things, today America is different. America has changed.

Washington, we're not going to let you get away with it anymore. Look, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Conservatives are awake -- 9/12ers are willing to do the hard things. We know what this means! We're taking time out of our busy lives, taking time away from their families. They're attending town hall meetings. Do you think they want to do that?

They are calling their representatives. How many times do we have to be yelled at by your people in Washington? They are reading 2,000-page health care bills on the weekend. The 9/12ers are willing to stand in line and take our shoes off before the plane actually hits the tower.

Somebody might want to clue Beck in on Franklin's quote: "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

I thought this type of rhetoric was confined to AM radio in this country.

      Afraid of change, much?

I can't believe he compared healthcare reform to 9/11. That's not even fair.

This fool was DJing Top 40 stations in the 1990s. I'm sure he was really going on about Osama Bin Laden. Fat interns and the meaning of the word "is" eh? How about you adding tax cuts for the rich under the Bush administration Mr. Beck? Remember they got the memo about Bin Laden attacking America and did nothing. Nice try fat boy.

Yeah - "I was on the radio warning people about Osama bin Laden" is an outrageous, offensive lie calculated to win credibility with his wing-nut audience. Remember the claim that Ollie North warned about bin Laden in his testimony to congress? I even heard that claim by a caller on Hannity within the past year - and Hannity just says, "uh, yeah - good call".

      CORRECTION:
9/12ers are willing to stand in line, take our shoes off and bend over and grab our ankles before the plane hits the tower because we're chickenhawks and won't fight back like Flight 93.

      Just sayin'
