We've lost our sovereignty to the UN how many times now, according to these yutzes? It must not be so bad if we keep forgetting it happened.

Please excuse me as I am barely literate. Maybe you could read the quote below and interpret it for me. It's from the negotiating text of the Copenhagen Treaty:

Pages 18-19: 38. The scheme for the new institutional arrangement under the Convention will be based on three basic pillars: government; facilitative mechanism; and financial mechanism, and the basic organization of which will include the following:
        (a) The government will be ruled by the COP with the support of a new subsidiary body on adaptation, and of an Executive Board responsible for the management of the new funds and the related facilitative processes and bodies. The current Convention secretariat will operate as such, as appropriate.
        (b) The Convention's financial mechanism will include a multilateral climate change fund including five windows: (a) an Adaptation window, (b) a Compensation window, to address loss and damage from climate change impacts, including insurance, rehabilitation and compensatory components, (c) a Technology window; (d) a Mitigation window; and (e) a REDD window, to support a multi-phases process for positive forest incentives relating to REDD actions.
        (c) The Convention's facilitative mechanism will include: (a) work programmes for adaptation and mitigation; (b) a long-term REDD process; (c) a short-term technology action plan; (d) an expert group on adaptation established by the subsidiary body on adaptation, and expert groups on mitigation, technologies and on monitoring, reporting and verification; and (e) an international registry for the monitoring, reporting and verification of compliance of emission reduction commitments, and the transfer of technical and financial resources from developed countries to developing countries. The secretariat will provide technical and administrative support, including a new centre for information exchange.

I'm too stupid to really understand what they are aiming at. Oops! Gotta go. My tin foil hat is picking up some black helicopter vibrations. Off to the bunker.

I don't know where they get there crazy ideas. Maybe here or some other kooky thing. Those guys are so crazy. I mean, that U.N. document says:

Page 43: 41. [Providing financial support shall be additional to developed countries' ODA targets.] [Mandatory contributions from developed country Parties and other developed Parties included in Annex II should form the core revenue stream for meeting the cost of adaptation in conjunction with additional sources including share of proceeds from flexible mechanisms.] [This finance should come from the payment of the adaptation debt by developed country Parties and be based principally on public-sector funding, while other alternative sources could be considered.] [[Sources of new and additional financial support for adaptation] [Financial resources of the "Convention Adaptation Fund"] [may] [shall] include:
          (a) [Assessed contributions [of at least 0.7% of the annual GDP of developed country Parties] [from developed country Parties and other developed Parties included in Annex II to the Convention] [taking into account historical contribution to concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere];]
          (b) [Auctioning of assigned amounts and/or emission allowances [from developed country Parties];]
          (c) [Levies on CO2 emissions [from Annex-I Parties [in a position to do so]];]
          (d) [Taxes on carbon-intensive products and services from Annex I Parties;]
          (e) [[Levies on] [Shares of proceeds from measures to limit or reduce emissions from] international [aviation] and maritime transport;]
          (f) Shares of proceeds on the clean development mechanism (CDM), [extension of shares of proceeds to] joint implementation and emissions trading;
          (g) [Levies on international transactions [among Annex I Parties];]
          (h) [Fines for non-compliance [of Annex I Parties and] with commitments of Annex I Parties and Parties with commitments inscribed in Annex B to the Kyoto Protocol (Annex B Parties);]
          (i) [[Additional ODA] [ODA additional to ODA targets] provided through bilateral, regional and other multilateral channels (in accordance with Article 11.5 of the Convention).]]

They have to be nuts to conclude that U.S. sovereignty might be threatened.

Page 122: 17. [[Developed [and developing] countries] [Developed and developing country Parties] [All Parties] [shall] [should]:] (a) Compensate for damage to the LDCs economy and also compensate for lost opportunities, resources, lives, land and dignity, as many will become environmental refugees; (b) Africa, in the context of environmental justice, should be equitably compensated for environmental, social and economic losses arising from the implementation of response measures.

This idiot seems unaware that by using language such as "U.S. sovereignty," we are, in fact, creating the image of what we fought so hard to avoid...tyranny in America. We fought to escape rule by a monarch, only to have a dummkopf like this try to paint the picture that we should "Rule the World Entire," or some crap like that. Failing to acknowledge that any country has a right to exist other than America, as Glenn Beck seems to subtly imply, undermines American Excellence, and prevents us from ever being to obtain what he believes we have, like a five-year-old: American Exceptionalism.

      Language and context matter, people.

I'm not really sure how you gleaned all this unrelated stuff from a 25-second sound bite, so I'll just focus on your final statement where you say language and context matter. I couldn't agree more. Here's more language from the negotiating text of the Copenhagen Treaty:

Page 137: 22. The COP shall appoint a board, which shall function under the authority and guidance of and be accountable to the COP, to manage the financial mechanism and the related facilitative mechanism, funds and bodies, which shall have an equitable and balanced representation of all Parties within a transparent system of governance, to address all aspects of the means of implementation for developing countries, for both adaptation and mitigation.

What does any of that have to do with U.S. sovereignty? The man is nuts.

You're so right. With so much of the world leaning so far left and so much more of it under the thumbs of tyrants, he would likely be arrested in over 100 countries if he openly opposed the governments, especially if he had the nerve to openly go against the AGW religious fanatics. Jim Hansen probably already issued a fatwa. Check please.

Obama wouldn't need to "deal" with the war if Bush would've dealt with it right in the first place. These people know no boundaries in doing their best to discredit Obama. And God forbid that green jobs are created to help a struggling economy. I cannot see how the poor people working behind the scenes at the Beckerhead show aren't dying with laughter at his stupidity.

our sovereignty? how about the last thirty years when beck and all his conservative friends, limbaugh in particular, have mocked every effort at energy savings like mileage standards and kept us addicted to foreign oil? if we weren't sending so much of our money to nations like saudi arabia, those countries would have less money for supporting terrorist groups. are we actually supposed to think we're better off sending them billions?

You're missing the point. It is our God given right, nay, duty, to drive Hummers and to waste as much gas as possible. If we managed to ween ourselves off the Middle Eastern oil teat, then we might have to launch less preemptive wars and then what would become of our bloated military industrial complex? If we become more energy efficient, the terrorists win!

I'll take capitalism over socialism any day of the week. As for responsibility toward "our fellow man" (rather sexist of you), the U.S. contributes nearly one quarter of the world's total Official Development Assistance (ODA). As for religion, AGW must rank pretty high on the list of fastest-growing faiths.

I second that emotion. What we should do instead is send hundreds of billions of dollars to the U.N. to "fight" that man-made menace (the bad joke that is the AGW theory) and the U.N. can then turn around and redistribute our money to the rest of the world. Sweet!

        Page 133: Alternative 1:
An assessed contribution from developed country Parties based on the principles of equity, common but differentiated responsibilities, respective capabilities, GDP, GDP per capita, the polluter pays principle historical responsibility of Annex I Parties, historical climate debt, including adaptation debt, amounting to [[0.5-1][0.8][2] per cent of gross national product] at least [0.5-1 per cent of GDP]].

You mean, this treaty? Yep, nothing to see here.

Page 39: 33. By 2020 the scale of financial flows to support adaptation in developing countries must be [at least USD 67 billion] [in the range of USD 70-140 billion] per year. [Sources of new and additional financial support for adaptation [must meet the full agreed incremental costs of adaptation and initially be within a minimum range of USD 50-86 billion per annum and regularly updated in the light of new emerging science, financial estimates and the degree of emission reductions achieved.] [will be needed to scale-up adaptation activities at the country level in developing country Parties].]

          Move along.

Page 145: (c) Define non-compliance parameters, penalties and fines, or a combination of the two or other as appropriate, and implement parameters and procedures defined by the COP to retrieve funds derived from fines and penalties; (d) Impose financial penalties, at a minimum of ten times the market price of carbon, for any emissions in excess of the level implied by the emissions reduction commitment.-

          Nothing to see here.

Global temperatures have warmed a whopping .4C since 1979 according to satellite observation of the atmosphere, the most reliable form of measurement. That is as of this month, but in June the temperatures was .01C warmer than the average, and average global temperatures in that month were actually cooler than 1979.

        http://wattsupwiththat.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/uah_jun09.png

In October record low temperatures are being set throughout the US. A baseball playoff game was postponed for the first time in baseball history due to snow. Germany had its lowest October temperature ever recorded. Ski slopes in the Alps have their earliest opening ever.

        http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/10/25/the-cold-war-hits-home-october-in-like-a-lion-out-like-a-fridge/

Antarctic sea ice extent was the largest ever recorded in 2008, 90% of the globes land ice is in the Antarctic. Arctic ice in September was 24% larger than just two years ago,

So with Copenhagen the United States needs to sign an agreement saying we must pay the third world a "climate debt"? That we must come under a world government, because of .01C or .4C temperature rise in 30 years. I think the temperature changed here was 20 degrees yesterday between the low and high.

This is pure politics, it's about wealth transfer from the wealthy nations to the poorer ones. Yes, the developed world needs to help those in need, but extortion based on false premises, is not the way to do it. Were did all these Ludites come from.

Indeed. You know what we should do? We should spend trillions fighting a fake enemy like Snowball on Animal Farm and have the U.N. redistribute the money worldwide under the guise of saving the planet. And then, I know, we can all stop going to work to save even more gas and replace all of our light bulbs with those curly-Q ones. I think they're called CFL's or something. Oh that's right. Oui! Oui! I care so much about what the world thinks of us. So much so that I hereby sign onto the Copenhagen Treaty, negotiating text or not. Who could disagree with gems like this?

Page 16: 33. In the light of a shared vision based on historic responsibility/emissions, debt/per-capita emissions convergence/an equitable allocation of a shared atmospheric resource, [and in accordance with the provisions of the Convention,] Annex I Parties shall provide new and additional financial resources to meet the full costs incurred by developing country Parties [in complying with their obligations under Article 12, paragraph 1, and the full incremental costs of implementing measures that are covered by Article 4, paragraph 1] [, particularly the most vulnerable countries including LDCs and SIDs, of meeting their commitments, towards the full, effective and sustained implementation of the Convention]. They shall also provide new and additional funding to cover the full incremental costs incurred by developing countries in implementing nationally appropriate mitigation actions undertaken in the context of sustainable development. Annex I Parties commit the amount of [ ] billion [Euros/dollars] in order to enable mitigation and adaptation actions in developing countries for the period now up to 2012. The [Conference of the] Parties shall periodically review the adequacy of levels of financing required to support mitigation and adaptation actions in developing countries, including a comprehensive review not later than 2011.

Complete with a [blank] check. This has absolutely nothing to do with socialism or wealth redistribution. I couldn't see how that could possibly be the case.
