They also seem to forget that Obama has already sent in additional troops, and that he has asked our NATO allies to do the same (and some have, and extended tours of others already in Afghanistan).
I guess sending troops into a situation without thinking is less harmful to the troops then actually creating a comprehensive strategy.

Obama already DID send in more troops. He took action on a request for more troops - a request that sat on George Bush's desk for 3/4's of a year.
And the troops that McCrystal wants? There aren't any available until next spring and summer. There is no urgency. It doesn't have to be decided today, since the soldiers that would fill this requisition won't be available until about 9 months from now in any case. There is plenty of time to make this decision. If he decided today to send more troops, or if he waits until November or December to make the decision, the troops will get into Afghanistan at the same time.
So, I will ask you a question I am virtually certain you won't answer, since it will demolish your argument.
If delaying the decision until December won't affect the deployment of those troops in June of 2010, how would it be bad to have meetings until that time to explore all the options (troop numbers are not the only variable under discussion, you know) and to wait until after we know what government will be there for us to work with?
The mind-reading powers of the wingnut on display.
Um, pup -- exactly WHY would a president with over three years REMAINING in his presidency be concerned about his "legacy"?
I mean, its not President Obama is sending out his VP or press secretary on talk shows to yell about how unsafe the country is . . .
