The sound of Sean back-pedaling is a very satisfying one. Especially when he's still wrong afterward. Which is most of the time.

I wonder if they are dragging the NEA into this to try and confuse people with the National Endowment for the Arts with Beck and Breitbart's created scandal.

Really? Inner city schools and the NEA are ruining our education system? What is your problem with inner city schools? I guess it must be the kids' fault that their parents are poor, and they are forced to go to schools that are underfunded, neglected, stolen from and vandalized by a population base that knows they are disposable and unwanted. We need to change attitudes towards the inner city, and we need to change the attitudes of the residents of the inner city. I once lived in a poor school district, and my neighborhood was poor, too. The school was often vandalized, and the things stolen were TV's and VCR's, because they could be sold for drug money. The children suffered most, they couldn't watch videos until the items were replaced. This sort of selfish behavior makes no sense to those of us who don't live there, but it happens every day, and it teaches the poor kid that they don't matter. As to the NEA, I was a proud member, also the FEA, the Defense schools were not placed under NSPS because the teachers' union fought it tooth and nail. UNION!

Really, so does Poor mean that you need to join a gang?? Does poor mean you need to steal?? Does poor mean you need to take or do drugs??? Does poor mean that you can be disrespectful to the teacher??? Does poor mean you can't do your homework??? Does poor mean you quit school to hang out on the corner???? I knew alot of poor kids growing up in my neighborhood. The ones that did any of the above were considered "BAD KIDS". I see--you are using the word "Poor" as an excuse for these kids when they are in gangs, do drugs, are disrespectful to teachers, steal, and quit school. Their is no EXCUSE for any of the above, and it is not because they are POOR. It is because they CHOOSE to be "BAD KIDS!!!!

I do not see a problem with the inner city schools, however. My girlfriend (a black girl) and I both lived in the inner-city. The city of Norfolk, Va, does have some good inner city schools, and some that are ill-kept. Maybe if the city made more of an effort to keep up the schools... To me poor kids do matter. My girlfriend's kids matter. They're poor, but they get good grades, and one is being bumped to a grade ahead.

There is nothing wrong with parents doing a little teaching of their children on the side.

Why not say what you mean Sean?

We all know who the students are in the inner city schools. You don't have the courage to tear into the public school teacher with you on the phone because he's from Kentucky. They've got inner city schools there too idiot.

I've never been more proud of anyone in my life than I am of my daughter who is an inner city public school teacher in the poorest city in one of our richest states. She, and her fellow teachers dedicate their lives to teaching the least among us, you know them don't you Sean? The ones your Jesus taught us to care for.

You are scum Sean, just scum.

I suppose one could assume that Hannity -- a long time friend of white nationalist and white supremacist Hal Turner, and radio host to principal ideologue of the white nationalist movement William Pierce -- may have a rather nefarious issue with inner-city schools. But I'd prefer not to leap to any conclusion as to what that issue may be.

The very sad thing is that no-one really wants to see the truth!!! The fact is= most of the black inner city kids grow up without any FATHER in their life. I personally know this is true. Most of the moms were not home as they had to work. ALL KIDS NEED SUPERVISION!!! This has become an epidemic in our country!!!! . These kids are not the least among us because of attitudes of American citizens. Their own family started the abandonment cycle. I don't see anyone trying to solve this crisis.

So can a Mother and a Father. People won't admit that most of the Fathers are absent in these kids lives!!! Inner city kids are given the same opportunity in the classroom. The teachers are Angels. I know my Mom was one. The influence needs to start in the HOME.

I am a public school teacher in the great state of Oklahoma and I can guarantee that 90% of the teachers in my school are CONSERVATIVES! Of course, I do understand I live in the bible belt, big hunting area of the country but still....It's just wrong to blame everything on the teachers. Back when I was a kid, I was taught respect, manners, how to respond to authority and all those social skills at home. Nowadays, people expect the teachers to do it and give the parents a free pass. I get more crap from parents when I try to discipline a kid. They don't care if their kid is learning, they just want them to get an A, at whatever cost. Times have changes and it's not the teachers who are at fault. I understand there are bad teachers, just like their are bad president (guess who) and bad doctors and bad whatever. But this right wing attitude of blaming public school for everything has to stop.

The parents have every bit a smuch to blame. I love personal responsibility. Sadly it lacks.

You are so right, I gave up and found another career. I sleep better at night. The kids have reasons for misbehaving, but the parents are so often the problem, not the solution. I hope your school year goes well.

Saw what looked to be a serious unmarked State Trooper four door parked in a visitor parking slot at school yesterday. I asked if it belonged to a student's parent. I was told it was probably a parole officer's car. I didn't know some JrH students have parole officers. And this isn't an inner city school! This school also has daily visits by the sheriff's department.
Can't say I feel the kids are much of a threat. I do feel a long ways away from my own time in JrH though.

Actually, in my last two public schools, a Middle School and a High School, we had an officer assigned to the school. When I was at the high school, a suburban district near D.C., one of my students was removed from school in handcuffs for obnoxious behavior. I also had a fight break out, between a boy and a girl. And one of the students that I knew as an 8th grader was arrested in the lunch line for selling drugs. The schools had a mixed population, some from a very poor area, and others from a much better off area, some were military families. I would say that most of the problems came from some of the poorer students, mostly because they lacked good parenting models, but not all of the problems came from the poor kids, and not all of the poor kids were troubled. Indeed, some of them coped with incredible problems-hunger, no running water or electricity in their homes, homelessness, medical problems. Except for the fight, I was never worried about my safety, and I was often in the building late at night.

I don't think he's back-pedalling. He's always been against the teachers unions, and, this is one time I agree. You're only angry because it was Jimmy Carter who set up this hideous system. I like President Obama because he supports charter schools, which does give parents a quality choice for educating their children. They give the unions a run because they are run by private companies, and are not as hamstrung by the NEA.

The more we can teach the inner city youth a good education, the less likely they are going to join a gang, sell drugs, and go to prison. We are going to pay one way or another and we should go with education over incarceration.
