That only happens if you are a democratic president. Not to mention the first african-american president in american history.

I was stuck in an airport and saw this live, if I remember correctly the "concerned parent" said something about how Reagan didn't have a direct line to "all the children" for an hour. He also got called out by Sanchez for being a Republican, though he claimed to not see why it was relevant.

Reagan wasn't a black man and was a conservative, so therefore it was ok that he did it. Although ironically, he was of course a former Democrat and apparently used to be pro-choice at one point. A few years ago I saw a picture at a campaign stop for Harry Truman in 1948 with Lauren Bacall and Harry Truman himself.

      THANK YOU.

No, I don't think it was scripted, but she may have prepared the question in advance. At that age, a bright girl would be sophisticated enough to ask such a question.

Even more frightening is that clueless adult parents like this guy are often home schooling their kids......thus the breeding of ignorance.

I am sure this parent thought it was photo-shopped back in 1988.

Not such a strange question from that little girl.. Sara Palin asked those questions all the time when she was a kid..so did the nut from Minnesota, whatever her name is.

What galls me is that if you bring up Obama's skin color to these yahoos, they will puke out a line about "you can't say ANYTHING against Obama, because if you do it's racist", which is a nice cover for a truly racist position, like getting upset that Obama prepared a video tape about the value of an education.

        We're not discussing policy here.

We are discussing the right of the PRESIDENT of the UNITED STATES to GIVE A SPEECH to CHILDREN about EDUCATION.

If you have a problem with this, you must be a racist. When Bush was READING along in a CLASSROOM with CHILDREN, while the country was BEING ATTACKED, I had no problem with it...except that he sat there, inert as a pile of pet goat droppings, and didn't get up for 7 minutes.

Which made me think: Are our president dumb?

yeah! the thing to do now, seems to be to run and hide behind the wall of indignation when called out for racist positions. if you are not hanging someone, dragging them behind a speeding truck, or spraying the 'N' word all over a black persons home, then nothing you say or do is considered racist. this includes calling the president an afro-terrorist, demanding for the 1st time that the president show proof of citizenship, guns being carried openly near his venues...etc. not in my 63 years have i seen such seething displays of vitriol toward a president. the sad thing is, it's being tolerated by the so-called 'obama loving media'.

That reminds me of one of the items in Dave Barry's Things I've learned now that I'm 50:

It's amazing that people like this guy aren't too embarrassed to go on national TV and trumpet their idiocy to the whole world - especially knowing it will be forever availabe on youtube for all future generations to see.

      What a legacy.

Unbelievable! It's stunning to see these people say those stupidities without being ashamed. And the thing is that the Glenn Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity, O'reilly and all the racists polluting the ring wing media are not helping that small portion of Americans who are so astonishingly brainwashed, still living in the dark ages and not thinking for themselves. They're sinking deeper and deeper in the abyss of absolute stupidity. I really feel bad for people like that parent from Texas who is caught lying LIVE.

Kudos to Rick Sanchez for bringing up that clip of R. Reagan speaking to kids. This whole debate about President Obama speaking to kids is ridiculous and so stupid.

        Great point.

Of all the dumb Obama opposition that's been given TV coverage, this opposition to America's first black President speaking to children about staying in school is far and away the most pathetic yet. The "but it's because he's..." nuance of those opposed to anything President Obama does keeps lessening. This guy's ability to kid himself and his willingness to go on TV does not justify MSM's choice to interview him and call it news.

This guy is a bigot simple and plain. I live in Texas and I see his type all the time. Especially in the north Texas area. The speckles of intelligence in Texas are Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and El Paso. The rest of the state is "red" with stupidity.

i would bet anything that the question that little girl asked was planted. why/how would a girl that young know about the national debt? unless her parents told her about it or maybe shes just really damn smart and followed politics. i would doubt its the latter, though. whatever the reason, its peculiar.

the hypocrisy of this whole matter is amazing. reagan could do it, but got for bid the socialist obama even talks to children... even though he has young children of his own.

oh, and i also want to make another prediction: when obama gives his speech to the children, and it is nothing but the "stay in school, be educated" crap, i can almost see the conservatives claiming, "obama was going to shove socialist ideas down the throats of those innocent children, but because we criticized him and told the parents to pull their kids out from watching, he edited the speech and made it something simple". just wait... post-speech, the excuses will be coming out, and the wingnuts will grab ALL the credit.

when the 1st president bush spoke b4 school kids, cnn reported that it was called a 'political move' by the opposition. however, cnn did not counter with the fact that when presidents carter, reagan, and geo w. (with his no child left behind agenda...which i had no problem with), there were no parents BOO HOOING in front of cameras about how alledgely "parents rights are being trampled", accusations of indocrination, and no shouts of keeping the children home. my pride in america is waning fast!! it's heartbreaking to see so many of the OBVIOUS RACISTS positions go unchecked by the media. one of the worst cases was cnn's lack of indignation at guns displayed so close to presidential venues. would there been such lack of focus if the president was white?? electing the 1st black president, is truly NOT a sign that racism is dead!!!
