This kind of ridiculous nonsense is what turned me away from the idiots. It's just STUPID!
Meanwhile...
Journalist David Goodman writes in the new issue of Mother Jones "Using data mining, stealth websites, career tests, and sophisticated marketing software, the Pentagon is harvesting and analyzing information on everything from high school students' GPAs and SAT scores to which video games they play. Before an Army recruiter even picks up the phone to call a prospect, the soldier may know more about the kid's habits than do his own parents."
Front page news? Not in this political climate.
It reminds me of the Religious Right, who are usually too busy yelling about abortion and gay marriage to actually read their Bible and find out what Christians are actually supposed to do. Namely, visit widows and orphans, and those in prison, and give aid to the homeless and poor, feed the hungry, and comfort those who mourn. The problem with all that stuff, as good as it sounds, is that it would mean they would have to serve their fellow man, when what they really REALLY want to do is RULE their fellow man. In doing so, they give all Christians a bad name. Of course, that's true of any sufficiently extremist group within a major religion.
Now I don't feel so bad about this bogus contaversey, because for two days I have been absolutely stunned at the stupidity of the Republican outrage. I've seen the Repubs foment a lot of outrage, but I just couldn't believe this one. I mean, really, I have been just amazed. If the Repubs can generate outrage over something as innocuous as the president giving a speech on students to stay in school, then they will generate outrage over anything. I mean that almost anything--I can imagine them getting outraged about the his seeing a certain movie, for example.
The "news" media is covering these people as if:
1. They represent a substantial number of citizens and
2. Their position makes sense.
Harwood should be turning around in his chair (on camera) and pointing out the people around him as those responsible for broadcasting this display of extreme stupidity.
