Oh, sure Obama needs to put this "story" to bed. How 'bout instead, CNN just prints and tapes the 1961 Honolulu Advertiser birth announcement to Dobbs' chair. Cut out the Presidential middleman.

President Obama can't do anything more at this point. The "Birthers" are crazies and for President Obama to provide more information or "to put it to bed" as they say, would be an acknowledgment to a fringe element that doesn't deserve the weight of the office.

Actually, I love it that the Birthers are out there... they're all nuts and Republicans... I want them to go to their Congressmen and Senators and hold their feet to the fire! I want these GOP members to see who their nutcase constituency is made of. Like Mike Castle found out when he went on his listening tour.

I want these people questioning his citizenship to be asked point blank if Obama was a white guy would they still be suspicous. This is all about being a black guy named Barack Obama. To many Americans that simply "CANT" be American.

They did do it to a white guy, John McCain was asked to prove he was born on a military base and he was asked to give his certified or lonfg birth certificate.

Yeah. That's because he was born in Panama which unlike Hawaii is not a state.

And how much attention did the people who demanded to see the proof get?

And how many times did the question of John McCain's birthplace come up once the proof had been provided?

Correct, with John McCain, once it was in front of a board and pronounced he was eligible for running for president it stopped. No one asked anymore except for the kooks who think Panaman Canal was not allowed at the time. People who won't accept the decision of the board. Why has Obama not gone in front of a board? Because he does not have a long form BC and I am sure we would find out a lot more from college records. Such as the type of grants he was awarded.

Gotta love the ubiquitous and vague 'they'.

It's a Fox tactic. The use of 'they' and 'some people say' is SOP.

You are incorrect. McCain was not born in a military base. According to his birth certificate, he was born in Colon, Panama - which was outside of the Canal Zone (arguably US territory). McCain's story has a lot more holes in it than Obama's, but nobody cared.

This leads me to believe that conservatives see this as a desperate move to circumvent the will of the people to put in an illegitimate ruler...again.

He was still born of 2 US citizens and went in front of a board hearing to decide. That is the difference between the two. One went and had it decided the other won't even show anything.

McCain wasn't born in America. Obama was. However, not one liberal Democrat WOULD EVER file a lawsuit questioning his citizenship if he won. Not one liberal Democrat would berate an elected Democrat about them wanting their country back and McCain is Panamanian. NOT A F-ING ONE.

He did, but the "birthers" won't believe it as long as it's still being reported as "news" on CNN.

There is no putting this lunacy to bed. These racists---and let's be honest, that's exactly what they are---will never ever believe Obama is an American because to do so would mean that he is really the president.

Until media outlets like CNN stop bringing it up and giving it legitimacy, this fake issue will never die. Let the birthers and the fringe right have the issue, and no one else will take it seriously.

Obamas no idiot. He probably could do more to show these nuts hes legit, not that it would help anyway. The reason he doesn't is to keep them occupied so we can get some real business done like health care. One of the few time I actually like politics.

My $.02 on this is simple:

There is more evidence that President Obama is a United States citizen, born in Hawaii, than there is to support the idea that former President Bush served out his military requirement with the National Guard in time of war (Viet Nam).

I think most of the birthers are racist and just hate the fact a black guy is president. The right has so much hate towards Obama it is frightening.

There were rumors that Chester Alan Arthur was born across the border in Canada, but then again, he never actually ran for the office. The times were much different, of course, in that we didn't have the same contentious issues and we didn't have such loonies in the media beholden to a minor political party.

I think they were being sarcastic about him "putting it to bed".
Yes, at this point, it would be very unpresidential to do that.
I don't understand this fascination with his birth, but Shrub didn't get anywhere near this amount of grief over his military record, which I thought should have been looked into much deeper.
      Hypocrisy is in the air!
