        Exactly,

Goerge W. Bush is the only member of his that has a southern accent. And if you watch his debates with Ann Richards, you'll see he occasionally lets his Daddie's Massachusetts accent slip, and he talked pretty fast.

George W. Bush is the only of his family that has a southern accent.

Did you ever see Will Ferrell's HBO one-man show as Dubya? " I'm like, 'Enough with the oxygen!' And my Dad's like, 'Why are you the only one in this family that speaks with a Texas accent? It makes no sense!' I'm like, 'Do I? Do I have an accent? 'Cause if I do, I can't hear it!'"

Here, have a look at these two videos; they'll give you a good laugh if you havent seen em already.

And to think, my mother voted for him because she thought he was such a wonderful christian man. Well isn't that sweet.

They are the same bunch of dito heads who lauded the freedom of Iranians disputing their elections and be just as quick to crucify anyone who says their messiah Bush did the same twice!!

If Obama had been even a moderate dictator he'd have thrown Fox and its morons out on the street! I wouldn't mind that though, freedom of speech only goes so far as stupidity!

Ingraham opened her morning show with this drivel. That means that she held on to it all day, never once reconsidered that maybe, just MAYBE, her complaint was too juvenile and stupid to use, and brought it up some twelve hours later on television.

Proof positive that not only do these idiots not care if they say something absolutely moronic, but are perfectly comfortable repeating it twelve hours later. In other words, they have no ability to reflect and reconsider. It's just full speed ahead with the shallow bs, all the time.

And if he's black, that means he was born in Africa! I thought you had to be an American citizen to be President?

I know you are trying to be funny. But one does not have to be born in Africa to be black nor does being black mean you are from Africa.
Charlize Theron was born on the Continent of Africa and she is white.
Bob Marley was born in Jamaica and he is black.

          And now you know

LOL... 'irony' is right. It disgust me when white people constantly talk about how black people should act and sound especially when their emotional. Look at Obama's other speeches to mostly white audiences, he sounds like that when he's excited, and the only reason they hate this speech is because its about correcting problems in the black community... Plus we all have to constantly remind everyone that Obama is black, maybe we'll scare a few "real Americans".

If you scroll past the conservative comments, yeah, there is a lot of adult conversation. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad this site, unlike most wingnut sites, allows opposing views, no matter how idiotic. It's just important to see most of those as comic relief to break up the serious discussion.

          Hi Richard,

You're new here, yes? Welcome to the forum. If you take some time to read the comments in response each posted item, you'll find that serious topics are often discussed by many people in a serious manner here.

I'm curious: what is there in Laura Ingraham's remarks to take seriously?

There are people who comment frequently on this forum who seem to know a thing or two about languages, linguistics, and communication, so I'm sure we could have a wonderfully serious conversation about how and why what Ingraham is calling "an accent [Obama] doesn't possess"...

          1) ...is not an "accent"
          2) ...is no more an affectation than the "affectations" every person uses when speaking in different social settings before different social settings (i.e. before a judge, on television, when singing a song, etc...)
          3) ...seems rather odd to characterize as a thing he "doesn't possess" unless one is willing to make a whole string of rather dubious and ugly assumptions about the kind of speech patterns Obama can legitimately claim to "possess".

But I'd love to know what you think. Please, by all means, let the serious discussion begin.

It's called a rhetorical device. It's used often and is very effective. I've experienced it in church, funerals, and by gosh, even Presidents employ it.

In short, it's for public speaking. Maybe Laura doesn't get out much.

I've seen several posts by Richardsimmons lately. This one asking for serious discussion is about the most substantial. The rest are mainly along the lines of "what?", "I don't understand" and my favorite, simply "?". He seems to be some sort of simpleton who enjoys operating a keyboard to ask other people to have discussions that he doesn't understand.

There usually are serious discussions until an uninformed, biased conservative starts to spew nonsense, smears, biased drivel, racism, sexism or lies....most posters here try to follow facts and logic. Those are usually ones that seem to get all their news from Fox or Conservative sites. It is fairly easyto determine facts with all the sources available on the interenet.Without a doubt it is Fox and conservative sites that use more innuendo, distortion and non fact based attacks on people and issues.Case in point..the Obama birth certificate. How can this still be an issue for so many??

this is the same type of bigotry that oreilly suffered when he made his remarks about how he went to the harlem restaurant with al sharpton and was surprised that nobody was yelling "M-Fer i want more iced tea", that everybody was well-dressed and even though there was an anita baker concert going on, it wasnt rap music with cursing.

obviously, oreilly and ingraham are cut from the same cloth... they have identical racist views about blacks and assume that every single african american will act like some ghetto thug.

Ms. Ingraham conveniently pretends to forget that when speaking to an entirely Jewish audience, a Jew's Yiddish or faux-Yiddish accent gets thicker, and when an Irish-American speaks to an Irish group the blarney is poured on a bit thicker, and sice she clerked for Clarence Thomas, I guess she has "forgotten" how Mr. Thomas's inflection and delivery varied from circumstance to circumstance. She was also somehow outraged that Obama would dwell on the struggle for Civil Rights when speaking to the ... NAACP. Typical cynical disingenuous feigned outrage by a right wing tool.

What INGRAHAM, LIMBAUGH, HANNITYand the rest of the WINGNUTS are having a difficult time grasping is that the people of this country elected a DEMOCRAT to the WHITE HOUSE (and he's AFRICAN AMERICAN to boot)by around 10 million votes. Plus we threw a bunch of REPUBLICAN SENATORS AND CONGRESSMEN OUT on their cans. The WINGNUTS are still under the illusion that their views are mainstreem american.
