This "Taking Control Over Your Life" Talking Point that the Republicans have put on an index card somewhere for these pundits to repeat, must not have had any context to go along with it, because I've heard this from half a dozen or so talking heads, and none of them have ever explained what that means.

How are they taking control? By creating a free market of carbon emissions, instead of letting the polluters police themselves.

Not a day goes by without hearing this line somewhere. With cheap talk like this these wingnuts are disrespecting those who actually did suffer under government control of every aspect of their lives, and they are also demonstrating their lack of understanding of, and gratitude for, the positive role government has played throughout American history.

"Taking control of your life" is code for the Dems are doing something that business does not like. Of course that presumes that we should believe that business has the people's interests at heart. This is the same nonsense about the public option in health care. The argument is that the government is going to come between you and the doctors. Naturally, the insurance companies care more about your health than their corporate politics. The Republicans can keep singing that song but the people are not buying it. They need a new mantra instead of regurgitating the old ones.

Isn't the gov't taking more and more control of your life what the right has been pushing with illegal wiretaps and attempts to limit what jobs gays and lesbians can have? Gee, just look at what kind of nonsense the reich pushes on us!

Oklahoma State Representative Sally Kern, probably best known for her comparison of homosexuality to toe cancer, has ignited controversy once again with her “Oklahoma Citizen’s Proclamation for Morality,” a document that blames America’s current economic crisis on “our greater national moral crisis.”

The document (PDF) blames “abortion, pornography, same sex marriage, sex trafficking, divorce, illegitimate births, child abuse and many other forms of debauchery” for the country’s economic woes.

To rectify the problem, it suggests the following solution: “BE IT RESOLVED that we, the undersigned, humbly call upon Holy God, our Creator, Sustainer, and Redeemer, to have mercy on this nation, to stay His hand of judgment, and grant a national awakening of righteousness and Christian renewal as we repent of our great sin.”

During a June 19 radio debate, Pennsylvania State Sen. John Eichelberger (R) repeatedly asserted that same-sex marriage is wrong, “dysfunctional,” and would lead to “polygamy, marrying younger people.” (Eichelberger is “sponsoring a Constitutional amendment to redefine marriage as between a man and a woman.”) But perhaps his most shocking comments came when fellow lawmaker Sen. Daylin Leach (D) asked him how gay men and women should be treated:

Leach: Should our only policy towards [same-sex] couples be one of punishment, to somehow prove that they’ve done something wrong?

Eichelberger: They’re not being punished. We’re allowing them to exist, and do what every American can do. We’re just not rewarding them with any special designation.

I may be wrong, but one view point is that as the govt drives up the cost of energy and thus the cost of everything that is made or transported, they are taking wealth away from those that still have a job.

      Monica dear --

If cap and trade is "really about the gov't taking more and more control over your life," then what do you call

      - warrantless wiretapping
      - suspension of habeas corpus
      - the "Unitary Executive"

      Hm?

Monica has a radio show as well featuring three hours of statements like these. It is sad to see a woman of such intelligence resort to lowest common denominator mob-baiting to make bank instead of providing any rationale for her statements.
Specific policy point are debatable, but grand conspiracy theories aren't. Maybe that's the point. I haven't caught her on the McLaughlin Report, maybe she's different there. I know Krauthamer tends to tone it down on PBS's Washington Week.

I am glad MMFA is covering her. I'd like to see coverage of her radio program too. My favorite ploy is her near constant reference to the president as The Bama. I guess that should be spelled The Bomba. How clever of her.

I have a deal for her. She can stop calling the President "The Bama," and I'll stop calling her "Creepy Crowley."

"Creepy Crowley"-Too Funny! I hadn't heard that before, but it so fits! The first time I saw her on the McLaughlin Group, she was the same color as her orange dress, and the veneers are blindingly white! Another vicious Barbie Doll.
