Glenn is mentally grasping for straws when he wakes up in the morning.

Wow! This Scheuer really, really hates America. Wishing (and promoting?) a terrorist attack on the United States. It might be time to notify the Dept. of Homeland Security (or the man in the little white suit).

Bin Laden is dead and where is any evidence he was behind 911? We need protection from our own government, asking them to protect us is like asking the wolf to guard the hen house.

The only chance the US has is if they are attacked, because otherwise Obama won't realize he has to protect the country from attacks, and if there is never an attack then Obama will never learn that he has to protect against attacks, and the country will be lost (presumably when it is attacked, although ironically that attack is the only thing that will save the country).

          Confused yet?

Actually, just a quick browse of his Wiki and it seems like he's a guy who's obsessed with killing bin Laden because it was his job to get into bin Laden's head.

I wish we could have seen more context, but I would bet that Beck hijacked his argument for different purposes. Beck's probably hoping the 'cap-and-trade', tea-bag noise he's been making is still ringing loud enough in his audience's ears that the only words they'll catch from Scheuer are 'bin Laden'. It would give Beck another way to legitimize his arguments to his audience.

He is actually a pretty respected Bin Laden expert that used to work for the CIA. He has a few books that were decent. His modus operandi appears to be ripping the approach being made combatting terror. He said some pretty harsh things about the Bush Administration. This talk, however, appears to be from the Cheney wing of perpetual fear as the only way to combat terror. By the way, Mike Gallagher has a promo that runs during his show that says the same thing.

I would like some more context. Specifically, what more does this guy want Obama to do? Hasn't Obama drawn criticism for one of the very things Scheurer is advocating: using more violence -- in both Pakistan and Afghanistan -- to fight terrorism?

And why is he appearing on Beck's show? That decision in itself speaks volumes.

But then there is the illogic of "the only chance we have for the administration to do the right things to protect us is for us to be attacked" -- which Beck only compounds with his own nonsensical comment ("That's why that would be the last thing I would do [if I were bin Laden].")

If he stuck to his facts, and what he knew, he'd be really exceptional I think. With this guy, you do have to look beyond his rhetoric, and dig into his factual information.

I mean, his comments here, are WAYY off base.

Michael F. Scheuer is a former CIA employee. In his 22-year career, he served as the Chief of the Bin Laden Issue Station (aka "Alec Station"), from 1996 to 1999, the Osama bin Laden tracking unit at the Counterterrorist Center. He then worked again as Special Advisor to the Chief of the bin Laden unit from September 2001 to November 2004. Scheuer became a public figure after being outed as the anonymous author of the 2004 book Imperial Hubris, in which he criticised many of the default United States and Western world assumptions about the motives for Islamic terrorism, and put these into the context of greater Western-Islamic relations. He is also, as you can clearly see, a world class git.

Now I'm worried about some lunatic staging a "Remember the Maine" or "Gulf of Tonkin" incident in order to further their agenda.

How can any respectable television person say something like that and not take him to task.

They pretend to know "the people" but they are so wrong... most people disagree with the Neocons, so they are really talking about the 30 million Rush listeners and not the 270 million reasonable Americans.

Scheuer is begging for our country to be attacked for some sort of vindication of his beliefs (sound familiar?)while Beck seems to set up a new theory as to why we have not been attacked under Obama to replace the old "Bush's policies saved us" tripe. Now, according to Beck we aren't being attacked because Bin Laden is supposedly letting Obama destroy us.

This is Beck's attempt at a win-win situation from a conservative nutjob's point of view.

I cannot believe anyone would buy into Beck's tripe. It is such blatantly self-serving talk.

I read Beck's comments as saying that Bush/neo-cons are still the reason the US hasn't been attacked. Beck's "reasoning" seems to be that Bin Laden's not attacking us because he knows that if he does, we'll put the neo-cons back in charge and they'll destroy him and Al-Qaeda.

This points out a major difference between Fox and the "liberal media" - people spouting this near-treasonous drivel aren't invited as guests on those shows. It scares me how many people will watch this and agree with it.

Thanks for the explanation of Becklogic.

So Beck's contention is that bin Laden trusts Barack Obama will destroy the US, and therefore bin Laden has no need to attack the US as he will only interrupt the Democrats' dastardly plans?

Of course, the unintended consequence is that bin Laden will then NEVER attack the US, hence the need to invite, no beg, bin Laden to attack. Bin Laden, being so savvy, will leave it up to Barack to do the dirty work.

Why does this sound like the plot of a really bad Roger Corman movie?

Beck's counter-intuitive logic is remarkable. Imagine if he turned his brilliance to designing microprocessor logic circuits, Intel might be able to produce a digital abacus.

You and your guest now find yourselves in the position of claiming that your country's only remaining salvation is a terrorist attack, and that the lack thereof will be your undoing. OK, so over the weekend, Glenn Beck was spending time sitting in a deck chair, soaking in the sun, maybe drinking a beer or something, thinking about....

...Thinking about what he'd do if he were Osama Bin Laden.

And then, later in the week he's talking to some random guy on the teevee (Scheuer), and the random guy says that White House will only 'do the right thing' after a few thousand Americans died at the hands of Osama Bin Laden. Scheuer seems to also have fantasies about being the Omnipotent And Scary Terrorist Leader, because the world is so easy to understand when you're filled with blood rage.

The really scary part about this is that these guys aren't really perpetuating an ideology. They are not political, though it's easy to be confused into thinking that they are. They are not advocating the deaths of Americans in order to advance a political agenda. They *are* advocating the deaths of Americans because it just makes things simpler to understand.

They are, in some small way, murderous sociopaths.

Also, this interchange can be read as dog-whistle language for right-wing extremists.

I hope the FBI is investigating this Scheuer guy.

Thank you for posting this... I would have never known that they were talking about illegal immigration as the source of all our ills. It's going to take a nuclear bomb from Osama Bin Laden to change the Illegal immigration policy in this country?? ... it just made me more afraid.

The xenophobic rhetoric of pointing all of our problems being the fault of the Illegal Immigrants just makes me crazy.

Then he characterized what Secretary Clinton said, summarizing it to make it look like she was blaming guns on Mexican Drug wars (she was really blaming American demand for drugs as fueling the drug wars)

Now he can turn it into a Democrats want to take your guns away lunatic discussion. Which has not been on any agenda that I have seen.

The Republican Talking points are as follows:

        Democrats/Liberals ...

        1. ...are going to tax you into poverty
        2. ...want the government to control your life
        3. ...want to take away your guns

I watched the whole thing, thanks. I don't see how this is "propaganda," because Mr. Scheurer says something equally, if not more, inflammatory earlier on when he says something to the effect of "the President and the Congress don't care about the security of the country." I am awfully sad to see Michael Scheurer talking like this, because I respect the work he did for the CIA, I respect the book he wrote (as "Anonymous"), I respect the way he stood up to Pres. Bush (and he was never one to pull many punches about Pres. Clinton, either), but he's really not very coherent here. And he's darn scary, too, because when he talks with such great conviction about how the country needs a major catastrophe to start a "grass roots movement," he's a pretty competent guy (or has been in the past), and I don't doubt that he might have the contacts and the resources to do it. He just sounds like a crazy man. That's a real tragedy.

Well, I thought I was watching Mr. Scheuer wish for a terrorist attack on U.S. soil, certainly resulting in loss of life, so that America can "get serious" about terrorism. Now I realize I was watching Mr. Scheuer wish for a terrorist attack on U.S. soil, certainly resulting in loss of life, so that America can "get serious" about illegal immigration. People like Beck, O’Reilly, Rush and Shaun are no doubt funded by Far-right Republican extremists who have an ongoing interest in keeping the US perpetually at war. These interests include but are not limited to staying in the Middle East where most of the world's oil reserves are, growing huge profits for the Military Industrialists, and keeping the Republicans in power to continue the eradication of the "middle-class" and allow the wealthy to increase to unprecedented heights. I was not surprised when North Korea began their usual "threat" of seeing what their Nuclear Warheads would do. This always happens at key moments (like a progressive President attempting to close the torture-chamber at Guantanamo or reforming a broken health-care system), and sure enough there are thousands of right-wingers who would love to get US involved in another ground-war with Asia (which Americans can‘t win; see the Korean Conflict and Viet Nam). It would not surprise me if Global Corporations fund N. Korea’s nuclear program to promote their own interests. I lost all respect for Glenn Beck when I saw his "teary-eyed" interview with military-wives last year. What a BS artist. Do people like Beck and Cheney want another Islamic-Fundamentalist attack on the good o’ US? Certainly! The “end justifies the means” for these people, and anything that will put the "Socialist-Liberals" out of power is desirable. What is most upsetting is how citizens just can’t face the reality of a lying and corrupt Government, even after Viet Nam, Watergate, Gitmo and Katrina. All they want to hear is US: good, Others: bad. Therefore, you keep it up, Glenn. I am sure your check is only ten times higher than that of your blue-collar viewers.

We get this sort of nonsense when we have 'free speech.'

      Treason I say!

Scheuer is a spook.. remember he wrote "Imperial Hubris" as "anonymous" few years back-- then he later came out, admitted being Bin Laden CIA headhunter...did the media rounds and still does of course! Yes, his MO back then was "it's all about Bin Laden" --remember this was when we were hammered with Iraq war propaganda WMDs... But Scheuer has always been out building up Bin Laden and parroting a "he's too big to fail" mantra...Looks like the trojan horse has been activated again. As we know before Bhutto died she even admitted live on a news interview that Bin Laden had died/killed several years ago. And those patriot citizens out there who have investigated the WTC demolitions know the story is a fraud, and the biggest fraud being that Bin Laden is behind any of these "intelligence (agencies) games" as former Pakistani Musharraf called them. Unfortunately the games these spooks are playing is costing the lives of thousands of innocents... I agree with the 24/Jack Bauer script references ---TV/Movies are a powerful media to establish and change social paradigms... The sad fact is that most people get their "reality" from the boob tube... the powers that be in shaping this know it! Bottom line, Scheuer fails the litmus test because he still clings to the myth of the official 9/11 "arab" conspiracy...

Bin Laden??? This Sewer (no typo) is a true terrorist! The F.B.I. refused to put Bin Laden on its most wanted list BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY EVIDENCE LINKING HIM TO ANYTHING! Bin Laden was an American agent! His family was and IS business partners with the Bushes! This scheuer is telling us that the zionist powers that be are scared and they are starting to see exploding a wmd on our soil as preferable to the exposure they are getting via their inability to hide their crimes at all levels because America is turning away from their media to the internet for news and information! They are losing their grip on our minds and they know the eventual response once America wakes up to who our real enemies are! If i were a faithful jew in N.Y. New Jersey , Miami or anywhere i certainly would be concerned with my peoples real workings and intentions coming to light. BOTTOM LINE IS IF A WMD IS DETONATED HERE IT WILL BE BY THE HAND OF ISRAEL WITH THE BACKING OF HIGH LEVEL JEWS IN GOVERNMENT! REMEMBER THIS IF IT HAPPENS. DON'T LISTEN TO GOVERNMENT! ATTACK THE FOLLOWERS OF JUDAISM!

Hmmm... these guys wouldn't post my comments...
      "mainstream" media matters I guess!
Have fun in left right land!

      Let's try this:

CIA man Scheuer accepts the federal govt official story about how the 3 WTC skyscrapers: 1, 2, and 7 came down. His business is the "intelligence" business.

Well, it's finally official. There was a "rumor" going around that the Republicans wanted a terrorist attack to happen, mainly started by your friend and mine Cheney. But it was denied wholeheartedly, as it always is by the Right Wing mouthospehere, as merely a misunderstood comment out of context. Now we have proof. There are right wingers that would do anything to get rid of "liberals," including pray for a terrorist attack from their sworn "enemy," whom, it would seem, they have much in common with. Frankly, this is terrorism to me, and Scheuer is a terrorist. That’s right. What else do you call a man who uses the threat of a gigantic attack, loss of life and untold damage, to make a political point? They may scream and yell about terrorism and terrorists like Osama, but at the end of the day it is their own countrymen for whom they reserve their greatest hatred, and I think they secretly admire a terrorist like him who can “get things done.” Lord almighty help us, but the news media is now truly and utterly insane, or just so stupid and fanatical as to have no clue at all what they are saying.

Alright so I was getting my morning dose of Faux today, and they have this infomercial about how "fair and balanced" they are, and how credible they truly think they are. It was every host and contributor for fox. Now I seriously would love to see how this is fair and balanced.
