Nantucket's own Chris Matthews goes negative on Barack Obama for vacationing on Martha's Vineyard

November 04, 2009 5:25 pm ET by Jamison Foser

Here's Chris Matthews, badgering White House press secretary Robert Gibbs moments ago, about whether Barack Obama has gone Washington:

You don't see any problem with the imagery of hanging around with all the fund-raisers, doing all the stuff that seems like a typical Clinton Democrat, just typical of the way things were before he got in? ... He even went to Martha's Vineyard this summer [on vacation].

And here's Chris Matthews, outside his multimillion dollar Nantucket vacation home.

I'm sure there's probably some sort of Martha's Vineyard/Nantucket rivalry I don't know about, but it looks pretty silly for Chris Matthews, who "jaunt[s]" to his "new digs on the dunes as often as possible," to pursue this particular line of questioning.

Oh what the heck.  Here's another:

There's obviously something very wrong when Black People vacation up there. They're not regular guys, are they?

Matthews is obsessed with that fictional "regular guy" that doesn't exist. We all live in a fast food franchised, mobile phone world. John Wayne is dead, and he never existed anyway.

Chris Matthews thinks the "realest" Americans are white Catholic "ethnics," and his cultural perspective dates from the time of Tip O'Neill. Time and time again he refers back to some outdated archetypal (white) male voter who is not very well educated and who makes good money working in a skilled factory/industrial job. Pure fantasy, unless you're talking about the early 1960s.

It would be much better if Obama's handlers could purchase some fake ranch and he could clear brush.

All right, it's well established that Chris is a goof and he often goes off on weird tangents. But he certainly isn't the worst.

If Matthews decides to name his house, he could call it PotKettleBlack.

Another irony is that summer places like Martha's Vineyard (and Sag Harbor in NY) has a very long history as an enclave for accomplished African-Americans. Believe it or not Chris, in the 20th century there were successful black middle-class people who could afford summer homes in the Northeast. And those communities endure, though they are aging. Their houses might not be as fancy as yours, of course. Criticizing Obama- our President!- for enjoying what he earned by hard work, in a place where educated African Americans have a long tradition of also enjoying the summer homes they also earned through hard work..

I'm Irish, so I can say this: shut your fool pug Irish mouth Chris Matthews. Stop giving us Irish such a bad name as awful racists. Stop being such an awful hypocrite, dammit.

There are a few of us here. It's like an Alanon (sp?) support group.

I just can't handle this clown anymore! What with him sitting in front of the tube for an hour a day taking great pleasure in hearing the sound of his own voice at the expense of his guests and obsessing over that damn Cheeeeney pronounciation.

Time to kick this clown to the curb!

Yeah, that Chaney/Cheney stuff gets on my nerves too. He makes it appear that he has quite the swelled head over his 'discovery' that the two family members pronounce the last name differently.

I saw Matthews' show today and he went on and on about the President golfing and vacationing at Martha's Vineyard and how that was a problem etc. How stupid is this guy?

Yes there is, although a friendly one I'm sure. Democrats favor the Vinyard while Republicans head to Nantucket. Although I saw Kennedy there once or twice!

You Dems make sure you stay over in Tisbury, West Tisbury, or Chilmark. They are dry towns and more to your liking! :)
